Howler is doing AMAZING, considering he lost an eye a week ago. Here it is in all its glory - looking pretty good and leaking a bit. The vet took a quick look a few days ago and said he's looking great.
He's come on a walk or two (with the oldsters) and hasn't run into anything. Though walking him one day, we kept bumping into each other. I realized I was on his "blind side" and moved him over to my other side. He makes up for it by over-extending his head around to see what's over there!
Howler was the pup who had the best start skijoring, so it's a big bummer to leave him out lately! I took the rest of the crew over to Aunty Cindy's to run with her team and meet her dogs and it was a blast! They all had fun on the 5 mile run. This was after they had been out to the river with me cutting wood about 3x earlier in the day. PUPPIES HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY!!!!
Hook up was a little nutty, Fossey (l) was nervous and growly to her "buddy" Louis(r). He's here avoiding her just after she growled at him. She's all nicey-nice here though!
Here is the little turd, growling away! Poor Louis wasn't sure how to react, his favourite sibling is never like this. Maggie in front, wasn't sure what was going on either. A little overwhelming for them, but 5 minutes later they were running and having fun.
Typical female - "I hate you! Ok, now I like you". Typical male - "huh? What did I do??"
And they're off!
A couple miles down the trail, we switch off. Lookit my babies! All pulling and raring to go. And look how gigantic Louis is on the back right there! He's a monster, but then again, Fossey is teeny-tiny.
Here's a wee video of the action. We just got a few fresh inches of snow so trails were lovely and poofy!
Cindy hops back on and I love this shot. She's got Rosie and Apollo in lead, behind is Violet (hidden by big Apollo) and Maggie, then Louis & Fossey.
Here they are going by me on the side of the trail. Note all three of my dogs want to come visit, especially Maggie!
This bi-eyed beauty, Apollo is one of my favouite pooches of Cindy's. He's quite the character!
And poor Howler, when he saw these photos he was not too happy. I told him he'd be out on the trails soon!

Glad to hear that Howler has adjusted well, if only we humans could take a clue from them about how to "just get on with it". Isn't great that Lewis' leg has healed well enough to run and pull like that. Do they get along well when they meet other dogs or does it take some time and mediation with you close at hand? I would think Fossey would be a bit of a challenge with strange dogs if she's like that with her siblings.
Geez I need to proof read. "Isn't IT great that Lewis' leg has healed"
Hey Marg! Part of the reason I took them over was to get more interactions with new dogs and a new yard, and running of course. Bringing Howler into town last week, I realized they were a bit hillbilly-ish! So we are on operation: experience everything to make for happy, well-rounded pups!
They were nervous at first but got along great after the run while loose in the pen for a bit. It helps that Cindy's dogs were awesome, and even licking the pups faces, haha!
Fossey is turning out to be the turd of the gang... kind of like spitting image of mommma. They absolutely LOOOOVE each other, and always have since she was teeny. So, she's a chip off the ol' block. Very sweet but a little fart too. I'm hoping getting her around a lot of new dogs will help with this "issue"!!
And yeah, it's amazing that Louis is running and being normal these days. It was a looooong recovery. He limps a bit, maybe to make up for the shorter stump of a leg? Haha. But it's not really that noticeable. HE had so much FUN on that ruN! He's the screamer/whiner of the yard (ask my mom, when she babysat how loud he was!!)and was like that on the run, it was adorable.
